今天跟大家分享、討論的一個(gè)話題是英語(yǔ)連詞，我們?cè)诼殘?chǎng)做presentation時(shí)，英語(yǔ)日常表達(dá)或是寫作時(shí)用于話題和內(nèi)容之間的轉(zhuǎn)折與承接用到的英語(yǔ)連接詞，能夠在你的演講或話題之間建立聯(lián)系，還可以用于表示比較和不同的觀點(diǎn)。

話不多說，我們就重點(diǎn)聊聊表示轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系的連詞，比如：in spite of, even though, although, though的用法。比如：

先來看看幾個(gè)表示轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系的詞的例句：

1、although, even though, in spite of , despite

如果想把兩種截然相反的意見或是想法聯(lián)系起來，"although", "even though", "in spite of", "despite"這四個(gè)詞在中文都有盡管、雖然的意思，但在英文用法表達(dá)的含義還時(shí)略有不同。先看以下幾個(gè)句子：

Althougth we don't agree, I think she's a brilliant speaker.

雖然我們意見不一致，但我認(rèn)為她是一個(gè)出色的演講者。 

Even though we don't agree, I think she's a brilliant speaker.

即使我們意見不一致，但我還是認(rèn)為她是一個(gè)出色的演講者。
 

In spite of the law, people continue to use mobile phones while driving. 

盡管有法律規(guī)定，人們?cè)陂_車時(shí)仍繼續(xù)使用手機(jī)。

Despite the law, people continue to use mobile phones while driving. 

即使有法律規(guī)定，人們?cè)陂_車時(shí)仍繼續(xù)使用手機(jī)。

老師想在這里提示一下："even though"語(yǔ)氣比"although"強(qiáng)烈，"in spite of", "despite"都有盡管的意思，但"in spite of"語(yǔ)氣很弱，表示一種障礙的存在，"despite"在語(yǔ)氣上較之更嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)，但它們都可以用在句子的開頭或中間。

example：

In spite of the fact that I'm allergic to dogs, my parents are getting a puppy.

盡管我對(duì)狗過敏，我父母還要養(yǎng)一只小狗。

Although I love sweets and cakes, I try not to eat them during the week. 

雖然我喜歡糖果和蛋糕，但我盡量不在周中吃。

I'm a terrible singer, in spite of having two parents who are good musicians.

我是一個(gè)糟糕的歌手，盡管我父母都是優(yōu)秀的音樂家。 

Even though they'd only known each other for two months, they got engaged.

他們才認(rèn)識(shí)兩個(gè)月就訂婚了。

I would move to Australia if I got a job offer, despite the distance from my family.
如果我得到了工作機(jī)會(huì)，我會(huì)搬到澳大利亞，盡管會(huì)離家很遠(yuǎn)。

2、in spite of and despite的用法

在"in spite of"和"despite"后面跟名詞、動(dòng)名詞或代詞。

example：

They never made much money, in spite of their success. 

盡管他們?nèi)〉昧顺晒Γ?但他們就沒有賺到多少錢。

In spite of the pain in his leg, he completed the marathon.

盡管腿痛，他還是完成了馬拉松比賽。

Despite having a headache, I had a great brithday.

盡管頭很疼，我還是過了一個(gè)愉快的生日。

The train was cancelled. In spite of that, we arrived on time.

火車被取消了，盡管如此，我們還是準(zhǔn)時(shí)到達(dá)。

老師在這里提醒大家注意，"in spite of" 和 "despite" 通常與表達(dá)"the fact that" 連用，后面跟主語(yǔ)和動(dòng)詞。

example

In spite of the fact that he worked very hard, he didn't pass the exam.
Despite the fact that he worked very hard, he didn't pass the exam. 

3、although和even though的用法

在although和even though后面，我們用主語(yǔ)和動(dòng)詞。Even though比although更強(qiáng)調(diào)語(yǔ)氣，更有力：

example

I enjoyed the course, although I would have liked more grammar practice. 

我很喜歡這門課，雖然我希望有更多的語(yǔ)法練習(xí)。

Although we saw each other every day, we didn't really know each other. 

雖然我們每天都見面，但我們并不真正了解對(duì)方。

Even though she spoke very quietly, he understood every word.

盡管她說得很小聲，他還是聽懂了每一個(gè)字。 

She didn't get the job, even though she had all the necessary qualifications. 

盡管她具備所有必要的條件，但她還是沒有得到那份工作。

"though"和"although"可以用同樣的方式使用，"though "也可以放在第二句的末尾，這種表達(dá)對(duì)立觀點(diǎn)的方式在英語(yǔ)口語(yǔ)中最為常見。

example

Though I wasn't keen on the film, I thought the music was beautiful. 

雖然我不喜歡這部電影，但我認(rèn)為音樂還是很美。

We waited ages for our food. The waiter was really nice, though. 

我們等了很長(zhǎng)時(shí)間才等到我們的吃的，不過服務(wù)員的服務(wù)還是很好的。
