Extreme sports such as sky diving and skiing are very dangerous and should be banned. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?
Extreme sports such as sky diving and rock climbing are becoming increasingly popular, but there are strong objections calling for their ban. In my opinion, despite the potential fatal dangers involved, these sports should not be prohibited as they are also fun and can be participated in responsibly.
Many people demand limits on extreme sports because they are prone to causing injury and death. Take for example one of the most notorious extreme sports: base jumping. In this sport, participants jump off a fixed point, such as a cliff or building, using a parachute. As there is very little time before they hit the ground, unforeseen parachute malfunctions are possible and the fatality rate is extremely high. Those that do not die may suffer severe debilitating injuries such as paralysis and brain damage. Base jumping is something of an outlier among dangerous sports, but all these sports involve varying degrees of danger.
From my point of view, despite the aforementioned concerns,if people are cautious in extreme sports, the fun they gain still outweighs the potential harm. Base jumping is the most perilous extreme sport, but other sports such as skiing, deep-sea diving, and rock climbing are relatively safe. Rock climbing is a good example of a sport that can be very safe and enjoyable if proper precautions are taken. Participants should enroll in training and go with someone who knows how to safely assemble the harness and tie the required knots. Many people who try it end up becoming passionate rock climbers because it is an exhilarating experience. Therefore, most extreme sports, if taken seriously, present little real danger and are an enjoyable pastime.
Overall, extreme sports are fun and not necessarily particularly dangerous, so we should not let fear of possible harm prevent us from trying them. Instead, we should seize the opportunity to responsibly try at least one extreme sport to see if it is to our liking.
