This idea that I’ve been holding for years in my mind changed totally because of the time when the vehicle I took broke down on a journey.

As I recall, we rented a car that could seat four people and hit the road towards our tourist destination—Yunnan. At first, everything went well for us. We were really in a happy mood, delighted to see all the beautiful views Mother Nature had to offer us like the rolling hills with snows glimmering on the top, the running streams with fish swimming free and wild, the flowers blooming here and there. We were blessed with all these miracles. Also, we were so elated that we thought nothing bad would happen during the journey.

However, we had a flat tyre  somewhere in the middle of the journey, still miles away from the destination. Of course, we got into a panic. Millions of thoughts raced across our minds. I tried to call the traffic police or car rental company for help, but it was proved a futile effort since we were on the deserted road in mountainous areas with weak signals. Luckily, we didn’t lose our heads. We realized there was a spare tyre on the back of the car. So through trial and errors, we managed to install this tyre in place of the old, damaged one. The whole process took us about an hour.

And...as for how I felt about this incident, it was a memorable experience, which would definitely be etched in my memory for years. I suppose I got this feeling probably because I actually encountered some sorts of real difficulty for the very first time, and it dawned on me that life was not an easy road but a bumpy ride. There were twists and turns along the journey. It is exactly these twists and turns that made this journey a memorable, meaningful and funny one.
